All Over My Face

Activity 4

Materials:

Pictures or photos of creatures/items that have designs/patterns
Safety mirrors
Face paint

Procedure:

Show pictures/photos. Ask students to share what they see/observe about the colors and patterns/designs they see. Define what a pattern/design is.

Explain to the students that they will be creating their own design/pattern using face paint. (You will do this with a small group of students at a time, and with a few adult volunteers.) While you work with these students, have them explain their pattern, what part of their face they are working on and the colors they are using. Talk about the color of their eyes, point out their eyebrows, ears, cheeks, chin and nose.

As the others wait their turn, have the students painting/coloring/sculpting/collage patterns on large paper that have a face template.
